lyn: problem is, that is put back onto the buyer's price. So in the end, taxpayers pay it anyways.

endy: and in the meantime, you and lots of other Americans have to have the newest iPhone or Samsung S-gazillion or any other hype gadget the minute it hits the market. Which, oh btw, they happen to be made in China. Nicely hypocritical IMNSHO.

reb: that's an idea. But then, it's still going to be the taxpayer who has to pay... just a different type of pay (by having to pay higher car prices).

what's 2 billion in light of the money we wasted over the course of 10 years in Iraq .... and got nothing but lots of dead and wounded soldiers from it. Oh.... the cheap oil and gas? Those prices have gone up too.

Just for those who should understand the size of 1 TRILLION: (And please check for yourself and forward this data to your representatives and to Obama.)
$1 for every one second of time to reach ONE TRILLION: 60 Sec X 60 min = 3,600 X 24 hr = 86,400 per Day X 365.25 = 31 Million 557 Thousand 600 per year (We are barely there) X 100 years = 3 BILLION 155 Million 760 thousand per CENTURY (Still barely there)
X 10 (We've gone 1,000 years at $1 per second) = 31 BILLION 557 Million 600 Thousand $31,557,600,000
X 2 (This takes us back in time to just before Jesus Christ's ministry in history 2,000 years ago) = 63 BILLION 115 Million 200 thousand $63,115,200,000
TRAVEL FORWARD TO TODAY, THEN BACK AGAIN = 6,000 YEARS... $189 BILLION 345 Million 600 thousand $189,345,600,000 (Not even a quarter of the way to 1 TRILLION yet)
31,688 Years at $1 per second = 999 BILLION, 997 Million 228 thousand 800
I googled how many years would 1 TRILLION seconds be just to check my own calculations. Yahoo's website had calculations putting us back in time 31,000 years to 29,000 B.C.
I changed the denomination from $1 dollar (George Washington) per second to $100 (Benjamin Franklin per second) to get a better understanding:
$360,000= 1 Hour. $8,640,000 = 1 Day.
$60,480,000 = 1 Week
$22,090,320,000 = 1 Year.
$1 TRILLION = (roughly) 45 Years + 3 months (Lyndon Johnson was serving as President of the United States 45 years and 3 months ago.) December 1967: The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour was newly released Dec 8, 1967. "The Graduate," starring Dustin Hoffman & Anne Bancroft, premieres Dec 20, 1967.
The U.S. National Deficit is currently 16.701 TRILLION dollars: (Real time link)
At $100 (Benjamin Franklin) per second that's 756 YEARS! Obama must secretly be working as a Real Estate agent for China to get China a great deal on ownership of the United States. He sure seems to embrace China's style of governing.

Wrong DutchTreatMI,
Obama wants more money for his friends and supporters. The Progressives pretend they are out for the common man, then they help their friends get rich. Look at the current problem in Cypress. The EU is balancing their budget on the backs of the small investor, so that Russians and others who have looted, have an off shore account they can use as a tax haven.
That will always be the problem with crony capitalism (from either side). The wrong economic decision will be made, because someone else's money is being used.

politicians are supposed to manage the government not businesses. this is exactly why our economy is going into the toilet. too many politicians trying to use their office to make a profit for themselves on the side, by networking and granting political favors instead of actually doing their jobs.

President requests $2 billion for advanced vehicle technologies and 'Spending Gone Wild' Sneeky can't stop spending taxpayer money we don't have! Time to put a stop to all this nonsense supporting EV's, Inbreds, special batteries and many other items that will never be used like they want it to be used! Take care of the out of control federal debt and restore some sanity to this country! Read my lips: No More Spending! Stop reinventing the wheel!!! Can't wait for Sneeky to fade away like it was an eight year nightmare! The sooner, the better! 'Coming out of the closet' Sneeky's lousy, smoke and mirrors, lack of jobs, dog and pony show and in the crapper economy, the jobs are Not here. Sneeky's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population and the job numbers continue to be down! Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Government should create the conditions and incentives for the private sector to develop these technologies! Subsidies almost never work out.
