Car buyers beware ...if your car dealer offers to sell you auto insurance too!

GasBuddy Blog --
In Michigan dozens of consumers were the victims of phony sales of vehicle insurance policies at a Detroit-area car dealership, according to state regulators.

The Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) issued a cease-and-desist order last week to Camillo Anthony Monaco and Darrell Lees of Monaco Motors. According to the department, consumers bought cars after being told that the purchase would be “in conjunction with” no-fault insurance for the new vehicle while the dealership, Monaco and Lees were all unlicensed to conduct such business.

According to Charles Nguyen reporting for onlineautoinsurance.com, paperwork dated between Oct. 11, 2012, and Jan. 3, 2013, showed that at least 15 consumers bought...

If your car dealer offers to sell you auto insurance, walk away – do not buy it! The victims buy a vehicle from a car dealership and they buy car insurance there too? These people didn't have car insurance before they came to the delaership? After all, this is Detroit!
Vehicles from a car dealership, Insurance from an agent! Buyer Beware!
Be aware of scams, car dealerships, dealer 'extra' add ons, cable TV service and 'deals' that are too good to be true! This is overpriced crap!
Drive vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

I have only heard of short-term or temporary auto insurance available at a few dealerships but it was coverage that would last 3 to 6 months..

Why would anybody buy insurance with their car? Do the insurance shopping separately and in advance of buying the car to help calculate the cost of owning the car.

That's a new twist & perhaps a good idea. They could help bring down insurance premium when it becomes one of the comparisons.
